Summary of my weight loss:
Loss 18 kg + 25.5 inches in 10 MONTHS with 2 Herbalife shakes + 1 normal meal!
Loss another 1 kg + 24.1 inches after I stopped taking Herbalife shakes.
To date, I have lost a total of 19 kg + 49.6 inches of my body.
I'm currently taking 2-3 normal meals per day.
I'm no longer dependent on Herbalife Shakes for more than 5 years.

Herbalife's Urban Legend : Fact or Myth?

An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend, is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true. ~ Wikipedia

Interestingly, Herbalife also has its own urban legend. Well, that is what I like to call it. :P

'Urban legend' in Herbalife happens when information - be it facts, rumours or misinformation, are being passed down from upline to downline, or from distributor to customer, without valid proof.

Today I'll be talking about the do's and don't in Herbalife, and i'll give my honest opinion whether they are in fact the truth or just something to make consumers a lot more paranoid/strict when consuming Herbalife. :P

Here's a few that we'll talk about today.

1. Do not use metal spoon when scooping out F1.

Reason given: Nutrients in F1 will be destroyed when come into contact with anything metal.

My honest opinion:
- when i 1st consumed Herbalife (F1 + F3), I always used the Herbalife Measuring Spoon to scoop my F1 and F3, so that I get the exact measurement. I didn't use any other scoop/spoon to scoop out my F1 and F3. As for Teamix, I will always be using either a small plastic spoon, sometimes even metal spoons if I can't find any plastic spoons.
- I didn't follow the rules bcoz of the urban legend. it was bcoz HL has given me the measuring spoon to use, didn't felt right to use any other spoons.
- whether the metal spoon will effect/destroy the nutrients F1 remain unknown. :P

2. If u happen to use a blender (with metal blade) to blend your shake, only blend less than 1 minute.

Reason given: Nutrients in F1 will be destroyed when come into contact with anything metal.

My honest opinion:
- I was one of those people who uses a blender (with metal blade) to blend my shakes. so that's the reason why i set a time limit for those using a blender. in a way, i just treat HL shakes the same as whipping a cream. like the saying, "don't overbeat the milk, if not you'll end up with butter."
- if you want to blend your shakes with fruits or anything solid, blend the solids 1st, add the F1 + F3 powder at the very last. mixing ur shakes too long may effect the taste of your shakes.
- as for the nutrients, whether they'll be effected by metal, it might have some truth to it, but not until all nutrient in F1 will get destroyed. :P
- FYI, HL just come out with a new shaker to mix shakes - shaker bottle, which comes with a stainless steel whisk (a.k.a metal). so with this new mixing accessory, is just threw out urban legend #1 out of the window. but i still stay strong to not mix/blend your shakes far too long. 1-2 minutes is ok. 5-10 minutes is way too long to mix your shakes. what are u trying to make? its not like have to 'cook' the shakes, u just need to mix it well. it shouldn't take that long. :P

3. Do not use hot or warm water when mixing your shakes. For shakes, make sure you shake using only cold or room temperature water.

Reason given: Nutrients in F1 will be destroyed when come into contact with anything hot/warm.

My honest opinion:
- i actually knew someone who mixed her shake with hot water by mistake. she thought it was okay. and the taste of the shakes turns out really bitter. so its a big no no to mix your shakes with hot or warm water.
- Anyway.. who drinks their shake HOT, rite? it shouldn't be called 'shakes' anymore if its hot, it should be called a hot drink. :))
- so i agree totally with the reason given. shakes especially F1 should not be mixed with anything hot/warm.
- as for F3, you can mix it with anything hot or warm.. as long as you don't get F1 involved.
- F3 should always be accompanied with another ingredient. F3 is soy milk in powder form. F3 can be use to make shakes (mixed with F1 as extra protein), add in cereal or hot beverages (as a replacement for milk), to add in soup/gravy (as extra protein in soup).. etc.
- same goes with teamix. it can be mixed with hot/warm or cold water. but to get the best effect out of teamix, you should always consume hot/warm teamix, 1/2 hour after consuming your shakes or right after your normal meal. you can consume cold teamix after you're done with your workout to cool off your body.

4. After drinking shakes or taking normal meal, you need to wait at least 3 hours for your next mealtime.

Reason given: You will gain weight if you don't follow the 3 hour gap rule.

My honest opinion:
- this is one of distributor's ways to force customers to be discipline when consuming HL. ehehe.
- anyway, when you consume HL shakes to lose weight, the reason you take HL shakes is to replace 2 of your meals. by doing this, u'll cut down calories. so what's the point in taking extra food after your shakes, when you already consume HL shakes to replace your meals + reduce your calories. right? if you feel that your shakes aren't heavy enough, feel free to mix your shakes with other ingredients, just as long as your don't exceed 300 calories per shakes. you do want to consume LOW CALORIES SHAKES, and not end up with making a HIGH CALORIE SHAKES, rite? :P
- by sticking to the 3 hour gap rule, you'll be subconsciously training yourself to eat only when it's time to eat, and not just eat when you feel hungry. this is actually a good way to improve your eating habits and learn to take control of yourself, be it cravings, hunger, temptation..etc. :P

5. Do not skip any of your meals especially normal meal. You must at least take 1 normal meal + 2 shakes in order for you to lose weight healthily.

Reason given: You won't see results.

My honest opinion:
- some people who think by not taking any normal meals, and just take shakes all day long they could lose a lot of more weight. this is called liquid detox. but detox should NEVER be used for losing weight and should not be use for long period of time (more than 3 days). pls refer this post - How often should i do detox? and click Liquid Detox to view all links related to liquid detox.
- the reason for this, u should always make sure u consume more than 1200 calories per day, and never below 1200 calories. this is to prevent diet plateau from happening.
- so even if u take shakes all day long to do a 3 day detox, let say 1 shakes is about 300 calories each, u should be consuming at least 4 shakes x 300 calories = 1200 calories per day.

A plateau may occur because
•Your body simply wants a 'rest' to cope with your calorie-reduction
•Your calorie-intake equals your calorie expenditure - in other words you are not creating a sufficient calorie deficit to lose weight
•You have reduced your calorie-intake too low. If you are not eating enough calories, your body thinks there is a 'famine' and slows down your metabolism (how fast you burn calories) in order to conserve calories.


6. Do not skip taking 2 shakes + 1 normal meal (for losing weight) on weekends.

Reason given: You must be consistent when consuming Herbalife to get effective results.

My honest opinion:
- some people tend to follow the lose weight menu : 2 shake + 1 normal meal only during weekdays and fail to follow this menu during weekends. don't expect to get results this way. u should always be consistent in consuming ur HL and following the lose weight menu. u can always take a 4th meal = light snack or a 3rd shakes if u feel hungry, just so that u don't feel that is too hard to prolong this type of dieting. the 4th meal should be treated the same way, it should have 3 hours gap between any other meals. make sure to limit your light snack/3rd shakes between 150 to 300 calories.
- one thing u should know, "It takes 21 days to make a habit". which means, in order for u to adopt a habit or create a routine, u should do something consistently for at least 21 days.
- did u notice what day i'm on right now? i've been updating my daily menu for 1700++ days. that's more than 21 days. i kept on going bcoz i've successfully broken the 21 days, and that created a habit, it has become my daily routine. it will feel weird for me if i didn't continue to update my daily menu. same goes to consuming my shakes and teamix according to the lose weight menu, controlling my normal meal using portion plate.. etc - all this has become a part of my daily routine, it doesn't feel that hard anymore.

7. Do not prepare your shakes and leave your shakes to drink it later.

Reason given: Your shakes should be made fresh and drank immediately. If not, it will get spoilt.

My honest opinion:
- treat your HL shakes like a baby's formula milk. if left for an hour or more, it should be thrown away.

8. Do not prepare your teamix in a big batch and drink it throughout the day.

Reason given: Your teamix should be made fresh and drank immediately. It should be made in small quantities. If not, it will get spoilt.

My honest opinion:
- if u make ur teamix in big batches, it will mean that ur teamix will not be hot for long. and this will also lead u to drink less plain water.
- teamix should be taken as little as 250 ml hot or warm water, mixed with 1/4 tspn or 1/2 tspn per serving, taken after each meal.
- if u leave ur teamix for long periods of time, yes it will get spoil as well. :P
- personally, i don't feel that by drinking teamix in a big batch works well for weight loss at all. its such a waste to make such a big batch, u'll be wasting a lot of precious teamix and ur money. and for all i know, when u drink teamix 1-2L, some drink 5-6L of teamix or more, how on earth are you going to drink ur plain water? for sure u have no room left to drink plain water. alas u don't even bother to drink plain water.
- remember: plain water is far more important than teamix. teamix is an enhancer, but plain water's function is far more important. it's to help wash out and dilute everything else u have consumed throughout the day. ur body won't function well without the presence of plain water.

9. Drink your teamix 1/2 an hour AFTER your shakes.

Reason give: To give time for your shakes to be absorb by your body, and to avoid from your shakes from being flushed out by your teamix.

My honest opinion:
- I think this was one of the rules that i made for myself. this was not passed down by my upline. my upline didn't tell to drink my teamix 1/2 hour after shakes. she actually told me to drink teamix IMMEDIATELY after my shakes. imagine, drinking shakes, and then teamix, and then plain water.. i felt like a balloon about to explode. :))
- the 1st few weeks consuming HL, i actually drank my teamix right after my shakes. i found that my shakes didn't last that long, within an hour i was feeling rather hungry. reason for that? teamix did flush out some of my shakes out, and my body wasn't able to absorb all of my shakes.
- so what did i do? i did some research of my own. i figured out that since the shakes are in liquid form, it's easy and faster to digest, usually anything light could be digested within 1/2 an hour, hence that is why i place that 1/2 hour gap for teamix.
- i tried experimenting on my own, and tried drinking teamix 1/2 hour after my shakes, and i realised that it actually helped a lot. i didn't get hungry that fast, my shakes could last up to 3 hours or even more. but when i drank teamix right after shakes, within an hour i started to feel hungry. true story!
- so remember to leave 1/2 hour gap btwn your shakes and teamix ok? it may seem pointless to some people, but in reality it's important! :P
- as for drinking teamix after normal meal, u don't need such a big gap. 5-10 minutes is enough.. to give time for your tummy to relax.
- i always told myself that, there's no need to rush and drink everything at one go. it's not like your shakes, teamix, plain water will grow legs and start running away. anyway, when you drink/eat too fast, it'll not be good for digestion and you might end up with a bloated tummy. :P
